Welcome to Portmarnock Family Practice

Portmarnock Family Practice is a modern, computerised surgery and is a recognised teaching practice for UCD undergraduate and graduate entry medical students as well as for postgraduate GP training. The practice has recently been renovated. The surgery is wheelchair and buggy friendly. The waiting room has a play area for children and has cool filtered water on tap. There are baby changing facilities on site and there is free car parking facilities to the rear of the practice.

     

HISTORY

The practice was set up by Dr. Flanagan in 1991 and was originally located at the Stables office park. In 1996, as the practice expanded, it moved to the centre of Portmarnock opposite the church. In 2001 Dr. Valerie Flood joined the practice and in 2004 the partnership became known as Portmarnock Family Practice. Dr. Sarah Short joined the practice in 2017 and has become a partner of the practice.

Dr Anne Flanagan retired at the end of 2023 and has been succeeded by Dr. Keara Clarke.

FREE GP care for all children under the age of 8 was introduced in August 2023. Unfortunately we will not be able to see your child free of charge without a valid doctor visit card / number.  DDOC will also require this in order to avail of FREE Out of hours GP care. So we  advise parents to sign your children up to the scheme. 

We are delighted to be partkaing in the new FREE contraception service for ALL young women aged 17 - 30 years old. 

This new scheme provides free GP visits, free contraceptive prescriptions and free fitting of contraceptive devices for women aged 17 up to the eve of their 31st birthday. You do not need need a medical card - just a PPS number to avail of this service. 

Portmarnock Family Practice participates in the Free GP care scheme for Children Under 8 years old and for the Over 70's GP visit card. If you live in our practice area you can apply online on line at gpvisitcard.ie.  If you do not have a valid card there will be a charge for the visit.

Portmarnock Family practice offers all childhood vaccines as per HSE schedule.

We can also arrange Chicken Pox , Meningitis B  and Shingles vaccines if desired. These vaccinations incur a fee. Please enquire. 

We are also a registered Travel Vaccination and Yellow Fever Vaccination centre. For advice on all travel vaccinations please make an appointment to discuss what is required. Vaccines are then ordered in and administered at a later date. Please leave plenty of time before your travel dates to ensure adequate time for vaccination.  

There has been an increased incidence of viral respiratory tract illnesses especially affecting young children.

undertheweather.ie is a website giving advise how to manage common illnesses and is useful to parents of young children. Most of these illnesses are viral and can be managed  by parents themselves.

We are registered with the Cervical Screening Programme which offers free smear testing to women between the ages of 25-65. Please log onto cervicalcheck.ie to check your eligibility and for comprehensive information on cervical smear testing.
